Ingredients to Successful Math Education

Year after year I'm reminded of some of the ingredients to successful math teaching and learning. Ingredients that include the following:

  • Well organized and planned learning experiences
  • Putting children's interests and needs first
  • Assessment, reflection, and needed revision
  • Response and record keeping
  • Meaningful facts, figures, and scenarios
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Openness to new ideas
  • Learning and research
  • Multi-modal approach
  • Sufficient repetition
  • Time-on-task with students
It's the day by day efforts that employ the strategies above that lead to apt teaching and learning.
